A page says I do not have permission
Get the page open by having an administrator grant the capability your role is missing.

What you'll need
| Tier | Any plan. Custom roles need Advanced or Professional. |
| Platform | Web app |
| Permission | None for you. The person who changes the role needs the Permissions capability. Owner and Administrator have it by default. |
| Where | The blocked page, then Administration → Roles |
Work through these checks
- Read the page heading. Access Forbidden means you are signed in and this address is blocked for your role. Go to Dashboard returns you to Home. Go Home leaves the app area.
- Note the page you were trying to open, and the job you needed to do there. That is what the administrator matches to a capability.
- Ask an owner or administrator to open Administration → Roles, edit your role, and turn on the capability for that area. Built-in roles already carry a fixed set. A custom role is edited under Choose permissions.
- Open the page again. The session reloads capabilities about every five minutes. If it is still blocked, sign out and sign in, then use the menu rather than an old bookmark.
- If the lists load but a site's records are missing, this page is the wrong check. Site scope does not show Access Forbidden. Use I cannot see a site's data.
Limitations
- You cannot grant the capability to yourself from the forbidden page.
- Billing stays on the seeded Owner role. It cannot be added to a custom role.
- Custom roles are not available on Basic. On Basic, an administrator assigns a built-in role instead.
- The menu hides many destinations your role cannot open. Typing the address still ends on Access Forbidden when the route check fails.
Frequently asked questions
I am an Administrator and I still see Access Forbidden.
Some pages need a platform capability even for an Administrator, and a few are limited to the platform team. Ask an Owner to confirm your role still includes Permissions, Users, or the capability named for that area. See What are roles and permissions?.
The menu item is missing, but I never saw Access Forbidden.
The menu is filtered by role and permission, so the destination can be hidden before you open it. The fix is still a change on the role. An administrator can confirm by opening the address, which shows Access Forbidden when the route is blocked.
I can open the page, but one site is empty.
That is site assignment or View own / involved only, not this block. The forbidden page is only for a route your role cannot enter.
